Exciting Developments for Pokémon Go: The Possible Arrival of Dynamax
Pokémon Go has recently sparked excitement among fans with a significant hint regarding the potential inclusion of the eighth generation’s dynamic Dynamax feature in the game. This suggestion is particularly notable as players look forward to new gameplay experiences in the near future.

The indicator of this addition is prominently featured in the recent 8th Anniversary artwork, which showcases a Dynamaxed Wartortle along with the three Starter Pokémon from the eighth generation: Grooky, Scorbunny, and Sobble. This artistic presentation has intrigued many players who are eager for updates on the game.
In an interview with Eurogamer last month, Michael Steranka, the director of Pokémon Go, indicated that the highly anticipated arrival of the eighth generation would emphasize the unique attributes of these Pokémon. Fans have noted that Pokémon Go has primarily concentrated on characters from the ninth generation, primarily drawn from the latest titles, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, essentially sidelining the eighth generation species until now.
Now, as Pokémon enthusiasts express their desire for the game to return to completing its Gen 8 Pokédex, the anniversary artwork seems to suggest that the developers may heed this call. Steranka mentioned, “We’ve definitely been contemplating Gen 8 for a while within Pokémon Go.” He further explained that while there is no concrete information to share regarding the timing or launch strategy, the team continually seeks to honor the original source material when introducing new content.
Steranka added, “Rest assured, as the team considers Gen 8 Pokémon, they are looking at Galar and pondering what makes those Pokémon truly special. When the moment is right for their introduction into Pokémon Go, it will be thoughtfully executed.”
However, it is important to approach this announcement with caution. The anniversary artwork has historically hinted at unreleased Pokémon species and characters, which can take months, if not years, to materialize in the game. Some players are still eagerly waiting for the arrival of Mega Mewtwo, which was teased three years ago.
When discussing the anniversary artwork hints, Steranka advised, “There’s often a glimpse into the future that can sometimes be more aspirational than our immediate plans. Therefore, it should not be viewed as a definitive roadmap for any specific year in Pokémon Go; rather, it serves as an exciting vision for the future direction of the game.”
In essence, while plans may evolve, the indication of Dynamax’s potential introduction seems solid. For those unfamiliar with the mechanic, Dynamax allows Pokémon to grow in size, akin to the existing raid bosses in Pokémon Go, and enables the use of powerful Max Moves. Additionally, there is a Gigantamax feature that offers even more formidable G-Max Moves and alters the Pokémon’s appearance significantly. Many fans anticipate that a similar system might be implemented in Pokémon Go, akin to the current Mega Evolution mechanic.
Looking ahead, Pokémon Go is preparing to celebrate its annual Global Go Fest this weekend, where players will have the chance to encounter Mythical Pokémon such as Marshadow and Necrozma. As the community awaits further developments, the possibility of Dynamax adds a new layer of excitement to the already vibrant world of Pokémon Go.
