Spotlight Hour: Focus on Trubbish, the Trash Bag Pokémon
This week’s Spotlight Hour is dedicated to the rather infamous Trash Bag Pokémon, Trubbish. If you find yourself not thinking of Frank from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia while pondering this Pokémon, and you’re above the age of 16, we might need to have a chat.
This event presents an excellent opportunity to hunt for a flawless Trubbish in Pokémon Go. However, it’s worth noting that Trubbish, along with its evolution Garbodor, isn’t particularly desirable in the game. In fact, players often find it challenging to capture due to its deceptive distance on the screen.

What’s the Bonus for This Week?
During this week’s Spotlight Hour, trainers will enjoy the benefit of Double Catch XP. So, kindly hold onto our phones, as we likely won’t be needing them.
Perfect IV Stats for Trubbish in Pokémon Go
This is an exceptional chance to catch a Trubbish with perfect Individual Values (IVs).
‘Perfect’ in the context of Pokémon Go can mean two things based on your intended use of the Pokémon. Firstly, it indicates a 100% IV version (15/15/15), ideal for your four-star Pokédex entries, raids, and the Master League. However, it’s essential to note that, due to how Combat Power (CP) is calculated, a perfect IV Pokémon is generally most effective in the Master League.
Unfortunately, you cannot determine a Pokémon’s IV until you catch it first. However, you can quickly identify a perfect Trubbish before capturing it by relying solely on its CP.
If you’re at Level 30 or higher, the ideal CP thresholds to look for a perfect 15/15/15 Trubbish are as follows:
- Level 30 (maximum wild CP): 857 CP
- Level 35 (maximum weather-boosted wild CP): 929 CP
The wild CP aspect aligns with your Trainer Level until Level 30. Given that most players are now above this level, these values have been highlighted for simplicity.
Is Garbodor Worth Playing in PVP?
Let’s be honest—Garbodor is not a great option. Its stats and moveset are subpar, making it significantly less desirable compared to its pre-evolution, Trubbish, which at least has some semblance of cuteness. Garbodor, having enlarged to an unwieldy size, appears as if it’s merely draping itself in the remnants of its former trash bag.
Garbodor maintains the same moves across all leagues: Infestation (Fast), Body Slam (Charged), and Seed Bomb (Charged). While it boasts a spammy moveset that enables it to defeat weaker opponents in the Great League like Barbaracle and Serperior, it falls short against nearly all other relevant Pokémon—especially in the Ultra and Master Leagues. Running Garbodor is generally not recommended.
Shiny Trubbish: Is It Available?
Indeed, there is a shiny variant of Trubbish! Shiny Trubbish and its evolution, Garbodor, were introduced during the Sustainability Week event in April 2021.
However, keep in mind that Spotlight Hours do not guarantee an increased shiny rate. Therefore, while you’ll encounter more Trubbish during the hour, your odds of finding a shiny are the same as any encounter in the wild.
What Does Shiny Trubbish Look Like?
In its shiny form, Trubbish trades its green garb for a deep blue hue, while its body takes on a mucky yellow color rather than the typical brown. This shiny variant is a visually appealing upgrade.
On the other hand, Garbodor swaps its dark green trash bag for an eye-catching fluorescent aquamarine and alters its spots from pink to orange and from dark green to lighter shades.
Additional Tips for This Spotlight Hour
If you’re aiming to capture shiny Trubbish during this Spotlight Hour, here are a few additional advantages to participating:
- The primary incentive might just be the double catch XP bonus available throughout the hour. Focus on making Excellent Throws to maximize this opportunity! It’s advisable to hold off on catching your first Pokémon of the day until the Spotlight Hour begins, as you will gain extra XP.
- This XP bonus can be compounded with a Lucky Egg, which doubles the XP earned for all activities in Pokémon Go.
- For newcomers, this Spotlight Hour presents the ideal moment to gather enough Trubbish candy for complete evolution into Garbodor, thus adding it to your Pokédex.
- Since Trubbish is a Poison type, capturing a significant number will help progress your catch bonus medal.
Keep in mind that Spotlight Hour events last for just one hour, from 6 PM to 7 PM (local time). Be sure to return next week for Clefairy featuring an exciting double catch candy bonus.
Happy hunting for that perfect Trubbish!
